Turn invoice emails into a live finance dashboard

They used n8n to read invoice emails, pull key fields, and send the data into Google Sheets for a live financial view.

Done with n8nยท Intermediate

What they did
They set up an n8n flow that watches Gmail for incoming invoice messages. For each one, the agent sorts it into expense or income and pulls out the supplier, amount, date, description, and category. That structured row then goes into Google Sheets, which powers the dashboard.
How it went
The sheet shows current totals for income and expenses, net profit, and spending by category. No hard numbers, error rates, or time savings were given.
Tips
This works best when the email format is fairly consistent. Since the flow described no human check, it is worth adding a stop for anything the agent cannot confidently read.

Try it yourself with n8n

Set up an n8n workflow that monitors [Gmail inbox or label] for incoming invoice emails. For each message, decide whether it is income or an expense, then extract the supplier name, amount, date, description, and category. Write one clean row to [Google Sheet name] and keep a second tab ready for dashboard totals by income, expenses, net profit, and category. If a field is unclear or the message cannot be read reliably, pause and ask me before saving anything. If you ever need to send, submit, delete, or change anything outside the sheet, stop and wait for my approval first.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
