Save newsletter summaries to Notion from email

They used n8n to pull in unread newsletters, summarize the ones that passed filters, and write the results to Notion.

Done with n8n· Advanced

What they did
They built an n8n workflow that checked unread mail through IMAP, then narrowed the inbox by date and by approved senders. Each newsletter that made it through went into an OpenAI summarization chain that produced bullet points and kept the source links. If a summary ran past Notion’s block limit, a code step split it into pieces; the first piece created the page and the rest were added by URL.
How it went
In a test run, 15 unread emails were reduced to 3 newsletter summaries, and all 3 were saved in Notion. The chunk-splitting approach worked. The IMAP filters did not behave reliably, and the first summarization setup was not the right fit.
Tips
If you use this pattern, test your sender and date filters carefully before trusting the results. Keep a fallback plan for long outputs and expect some models to fail on token limits or errors.

Try it yourself with n8n

Help me build an n8n workflow that reads unread messages from [email folder or label] over IMAP, keeps only newsletters from [allowed senders] and [date range], then summarizes each one with [AI model] into short bullets that include source links. If any summary is too long for Notion’s block limits, split it into multiple blocks, create the page with the first chunk, then add the rest only after I approve the page content. Stop and ask me before sending anything, deleting anything, or saving the final Notion page. Finish by showing me the workflow for [Notion database name].
