Build a personal portfolio tracker with Claude

They used Claude to turn an Excel allocation model into a phone-and-laptop portfolio tracker for SIPs, lump sums, and return calculations.

What they did
They sketched the allocation rules in Excel first, then asked Claude on the web to turn that logic into a PWA/HTML app they could use on both laptop and phone. The tracker includes balanced and correction modes, shifts new SIP or lump-sum money toward holdings below target ranges, and uses a ranked dividend bucket. They still type in portfolio data by hand.
How it went
They say the tool now fits their long-term investing workflow, and they shared a live demo and a video of it working. It still relied on static manual inputs, with no broker connection, and they had not linked Kite or other APIs because Kite’s API would cost about ₹2,000.
Tips
It helped to define the allocation rules before building the app, which cut the conversion time to about 2–3 days once the structure was clear. If you want live broker data or automated sync, check the API cost and complexity first.

Try it yourself with Claude

Help me turn my investment allocation rules into a simple tracker I can run on my own devices. I invest in [funds/stocks] through [monthly SIPs/lump sums], and I want the tool to calculate money-weighted returns for each holding and for the full portfolio. I’ll give you [sample transactions, target weights, current values, and any special rules]. First, ask any questions you need. Then propose the data model and logic, generate the code or spreadsheet formulas, and show a small test with my sample data. Before you do anything irreversible, such as connecting accounts, deleting data, or submitting transactions, pause and ask me to approve the step.
