Build a daily inbox assistant with Hermes

They used Hermes on a local Ollama model to review a personal inbox each day from a cron schedule.

What they did
Working with Claude Code, the person put together the setup and an MCP server, while they supplied the requirements and directed how it should behave. For the email job, they picked a different base model, gave Hermes very specific instructions, and let it run every day to handle their personal mailbox in a GTD workflow.
How it went
They said it handled daily inbox work well enough, and they later extended the same setup to travel. In their view, Hermes fits chat and operational work better than software-building tasks.
Tips
Free local Ollama models can be enough for a straightforward scheduled task, but getting a local stack running still takes a fair amount of setup. Keep the agent in review mode for anything that would change messages or account state.

Try it yourself with Hermes Agent

Set up Hermes so it runs every day at [time] and checks my inbox at [email provider/account] through [local Ollama model]. Organize new mail into [categories], then show me a concise status report of what I should handle next and any suggested response text. Pause before any message is sent, erased, archived, or otherwise changed, and wait for my approval. Begin by mapping the setup, then give me the steps to schedule it, and end with a test run so I can verify the output before it goes live.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
