Use scheduled cloud tasks for nightly team briefings
One person moved overnight review and briefing work into Claude Code Cloud scheduled tasks, with git acting as the bridge between runs.
- What they did
- They already had a self-hosted Claude automation setup spread across three environments, with 11 cron jobs and a Slack daemon. They then sorted out which jobs could be shifted into Claude Code Cloud scheduled tasks. In Cloud, the nightly retrospective and the morning coordinator run one after the other, while hourly jobs either pull from git or hit APIs directly for tweet scheduling, email handling, and news checks; each task writes its own output back to git.
- How it went
- Moving to Cloud would let them drop 7 of the 11 cron jobs, since those only existed to keep the system running. They also said the back-to-back Cloud runs can raise quality because one session’s context carries into the next. The setup still does not solve the always-on Slack workflow, since each Cloud task starts in a fresh VM and cannot stay live to watch for messages.
- Tips
- This works best when each step can hand off through git or another saved output. If a job needs continuous listening, persistent state, or message chaining across runs, keep that part elsewhere.
Try it yourself with Claude Code
Set up a nightly scheduled task that reviews [folders, repos, inboxes, or notes] for the day’s changes, writes a short retrospective, and prepares a morning briefing saved to [location]. Include [open items, blockers, priorities, or other fields] in a one-page format. Also create a separate hourly task for [tweet scheduling, email processing, or news monitoring] that reads from [git or an API] and writes its results back to [git or another storage location]. Before any action that would send, submit, delete, or pay for anything, stop and ask me to approve it. Run the workflow once now so I can review the output before scheduling it.
Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
