Use n8n to send onboarding PDFs and reminders

They connected n8n to Google Sheets so client welcome packs and follow-up reminders go out on their own.

What they did
They built two n8n flows around a Google Sheet. In the first one, an onboarding flag in the sheet kicks off a series that pulls the client’s upcoming sessions, writes a temporary Google Doc, exports it as a tailored PDF, emails it as a welcome pack with the trainer copied, and then updates the row so it cannot run again. The second flow runs at 8am and looks for sessions due in 30 or 7 days, then repeats the same PDF-and-email steps for reminders.
How it went
Every client gets an onboarding packet automatically, along with reminders at 30 days and 7 days, without manual sending. The setup worked well, but the author said some parts could be arranged more cleanly. The temporary-file approach also matters because the document is created, converted, attached, and then removed afterward so Drive does not fill up.
Tips
Use a status field or similar guard so each row is handled only once. If you rely on temporary docs, include a cleanup step after the email is sent.

Try it yourself with n8n

Help me build an n8n automation for client onboarding. Watch [Google Sheet name] for rows where [status field] changes to [onboarding value], then read [client name], [email], and upcoming [session details]. Create a temporary document from [template], turn it into a PDF, and prepare an email to [client email] with [trainer/team] copied. Pause and show me the subject, message, and recipients for approval before anything is sent. After I approve, send the email, mark the row as processed so it will not run again, and delete the temporary file. Also add a scheduled check at [time] that finds sessions due in [30/7] days and sends the same reminder flow.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
