Use Gemini to gather Drive docs and check a spreadsheet

A user had Gemini fetch Google Docs from Drive and compare them with a shared spreadsheet, then checked the results by hand.

What they did
They asked Gemini 3.1 Pro to find several Google Docs in their Google Drive, and it returned the right ones. Then they used it to compare the files with a shared Google Sheet and pull out the needed metrics. The model produced tidy-looking numbers for 2024, asked for the IDs of the remaining sheets, and finished after the user reviewed the output and pushed back.
How it went
At first, the user suspected the model had made up the figures because it only showed one year and later said it could not access the file. Once they checked manually, they saw the numbers were correct, and Gemini ultimately completed the task. Even so, the experience felt messy and less trustworthy than expected.
Tips
Do a manual spot-check against the source files before treating extracted data as final. A commenter also said attaching the file with the + button works better than pasting a Google Sheet link.

Try it yourself with Gemini

Please locate these files in my Drive: [doc titles, keywords, or folder name]. For each one you find, return the title, a shareable link, and a brief summary based only on the document itself. Then compare those documents with this spreadsheet: [sheet link or attached file] and extract the requested values. If you can’t access something or aren’t confident about a result, stop and tell me rather than guessing. Before any action that sends, deletes, submits, or changes data, pause and ask me to confirm.
