Use Claude in Chrome to batch-update ERP records

They had Claude’s Chrome extension change two fields across about 400 ERP transactions, with the work running in the browser while they watched for issues.

What they did
A software engineer friend helped them install Claude’s Chrome extension, then they gave it a task that would usually take about 2 hours by hand: revising two fields across roughly 400 ERP transactions. Claude used page screenshots to work through each record, and they kept tightening the instructions from a broad ask into a numbered checklist.
How it went
The process crawled. Half the time, token limits were reached and the reset took 5 hours, so the job demanded at least as much effort as doing it manually. The only clear advantage was that it could keep working without them sitting there the whole time.
Tips
Plan to adjust the prompt more than once, because wording can change the route the agent takes. Screenshot-heavy steps seem to consume tokens fast, so use small batches and frequent check-ins.

I’m already logged into [ERP system] here. Go through the items in [saved search, report, or list name] one by one. For each record, open it, set [field 1] according to [value or rule], set [field 2] according to [value or rule], and save it. Handle the first 5 records, then stop and show me what changed so I can approve the approach. If I approve, continue in groups of [number], and keep a log of IDs that are finished, skipped, or failed. If anything seems unusual or a field is not what you expect, pause and ask me before continuing, especially before any irreversible action.
