Turn payment alerts into a weekly email digest

They used n8n to gather labeled Gmail payment emails and send a Sunday summary with the main points from each one.

Done with n8n· Intermediate

What they did
They tagged payment-related messages in Gmail, then set up an n8n workflow to run every Sunday morning. The flow pulled the prior week’s labeled emails, bundled the text together, and kept the combined content under 100K characters. An AI Agent node using gpt-4o-mini through OpenRouter wrote the digest from a system-message template, then a code step changed the markdown into HTML before Gmail sent it.
How it went
They receive about 15 payment alerts each week, and the workflow folds them into one weekly digest email. The only result mentioned was a working test run.
Tips
If you combine a lot of emails, trim the text before sending it to the model so it stays within limits. Add a formatting step before email delivery, or the message may show markdown symbols instead of clean text.

Try it yourself with n8n

Create an n8n workflow that, every Sunday at [time], checks Gmail messages with the label [label name] from the previous [time period]. For each email, extract the top three takeaways, then combine them into a single digest for [recipient email]. Before any sending step, pause and ask me to approve the final email. Finish by sending a test digest built from the last [time period] of labeled messages.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
