Turn a tangled shopping question into a store price check
A Reddit user asked Alexa+ a messy set of shopping questions, and it sorted them into a comparison of bag prices and savings.
- What they did
- A couple spoke to Alexa+ with a messy mix of shopping prompts about rice types, store prices, and Costco package sizes. The agent treated the jumble as a request to compare costs, then returned a side-by-side view of typical 5-pound bag prices from Hy-Vee, Walmart, and Costco. Because Costco sells larger 20-pound bags, it also translated that size into a 5-pound equivalent before showing the savings.
- How it went
- The poster says the answer was easy to follow and something the older Alexa could not have assembled. They also noted a flaw in the beta: Alexa could answer Walmart on direct ask, was not able to give Hy-Vee at that moment, yet later included Hy-Vee in the combined comparison.
- Tips
- This works best when you ask for the comparison in plain terms and let the agent infer the structure. If a request could lead to buying or checkout, make it wait for approval first.
Try it yourself with Alexa+
I want to compare [product] across [store 1], [store 2], and [store 3]. Work out the cost for [common unit or package size], convert any larger packs into that same basis, and tell me the savings. If my request is a bit scrambled, infer the comparison I mean, then give me a short table or summary. Before you place an order, add items to a cart, send anything, delete anything, or submit anything, pause and ask for my approval.
Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
