Automate daily arXiv paper tracking in Notion

They used n8n to pull fresh arXiv results, condense each paper with Gemini, and file the entries in Notion with email and Feishu alerts.

What they did
A scheduled n8n job kicked off at 6:00 AM each day and looked up the prior day’s arXiv submissions for one keyword. The Atom feed was reshaped into JSON so author and category data could be passed as arrays, then Gemini 2.5 Flash produced a brief summary and translation for each paper. After that, the flow added records to two Notion tables and sent notifications through Feishu and Gmail, while GPT helped draft the HTML email format.
How it went
The setup was built with the expectation of handling under 20 papers per day, but no outcome metrics were shared. It also had a few practical constraints: Notion’s create-page step can only add rows, not edit them, and blank values or badly formed multi-select fields can trigger a 400 error.
Tips
Map every Notion property to the right data shape before sending it, especially list fields. If you plan to email updates, insert an approval step before the first send and check for duplicate papers before creating records.

Try it yourself with n8n

Create an [n8n] automation that starts at [time] each day, checks arXiv for items from the last 24 hours containing [keyword], and turns the response into structured rows with title, authors, categories, link, and date. For each item, ask [AI model] for a 2-3 sentence summary plus a translation, then prepare entries for my Notion database [database name] and a digest email. Before any message is sent or any record is finalized, stop and show me the draft for approval; if the paper already exists, skip it instead of adding a duplicate.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
