Fill PDF forms from saved personal details

A developer used Claude Code to complete W-9s from stored details and save finished copies for later reuse.

What they did
Dave Swift placed an empty W-9 in a folder and asked Claude Code to identify its fillable fields. After he supplied his personal information, the agent wrote a small script that populated the form and saved a new PDF. He then turned that repeatable workflow into a skill that can ask for missing details, remember reusable ones, handle fields with different labels, and flatten the final file.
How it went
In a batch run, it produced three W-9s in about thirty seconds. Flat scanned PDFs were slower, because the text had to be positioned by coordinate and adjusted by hand several times.
Tips
Whenever possible, ask for a fillable version instead of a scanned one. Open the finished PDF yourself and check it before using or sending it.

Try it yourself with Claude Code

You are helping me complete a PDF form. Inspect [file path] and tell me which fields it can fill. Then ask me only for the details you still need, such as [name], [address], [tax ID], and any other required values. Fill the form, save a new copy next to the original as [output name], and remember any details I may want reused later. If some field names are different from my labels, match them sensibly. If the PDF is scanned or otherwise not fillable, tell me that clearly and do not guess. Stop and ask for my approval before you send, submit, print, delete, or otherwise make any irreversible change.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
