Make an Ableton Live track from chat prompts

A developer used Codex with an MCP server to build and tweak a full Ableton Live song by conversation.

Done with Codex· Advanced

What they did
They connected Codex to Ableton Live through an MCP server that can run Python inside Live’s object model and exposes a few built-in music tools. In a demo, they asked for an EDM track with macOS “say” vocals, chiptune parts, and 80s-style drum machines, then kept sending short follow-up requests for MIDI instruments, fills, dynamics, sidechain, and one extra layer.
How it went
Codex assembled full Live sets from nothing in a few minutes and then revised them through more chat. The README did not include any audio-quality rating, and one later change came back with no notes while another was described as muddy.
Tips
Back up the Live Set before trying this, since the MCP connection edits the project directly and could damage it. It had only been tested on Live Suite 12.3.8 on macOS.

Try it yourself with Codex

Connect [Ableton Live or your music app] to [Codex or another agent] through an MCP server so you can control the project by chat. Build a [genre] track of about [length] with [sounds, instruments, or mood], then add drums, bass, melody, fills, and a simple mix. After each change, show me what you did and wait for my approval before you overwrite, delete, submit, or otherwise make anything irreversible.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
