Use Hold for Me on a long IRS call

A Pixel owner let Google's Hold for Me sit through a 90-minute IRS wait and planned to take over when a person finally picked up.

What they did
A Reddit user, powerbird101, dialed the IRS on a Pixel 6 Pro and switched on Google’s Hold for Me feature. The assistant stayed in the queue during the long wait and was supposed to notify the user when a live agent came back. When someone finally did, Google indicated the caller was still connected and would return in a few seconds.
How it went
It backfired. The IRS representative said they would not continue the call if Hold for Me was being used, then ended the conversation before the user could ask anything. The 90 minutes spent waiting did not lead to any help.
Tips
This kind of helper can be useful on ordinary customer-service lines, but it may cause problems with government or financial offices. Use it only where call recording or automated hold handling is allowed, and take over yourself before any sensitive details are shared.

Call [organization] at [phone number] and stay on the line for me while I’m away. If you reach hold music or a queue, keep waiting and notify me as soon as a real person comes on. Do not make any commitments, share personal details, or say anything beyond a brief holding message unless I first approve it.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
