Use Gemini to call stores about local stock

A writer had Gemini phone nearby shops to check Labubu stock, then received written summaries with availability, prices, and hours.

What they did
After not finding the toy at a few places, the writer opened Google’s AI Mode in Search Labs and chose the “Have AI check availability” option on a store listing. They answered a few questions about the item and how far they were willing to travel, then Gemini used Duplex to call the store and introduced itself as an AI. The writer did not stay on the call.
How it went
Roughly 40 minutes later, they got a message saying Labubu figures were available, along with the price and store hours. The figure was still being shipped when they reported back, so they had not received it yet.
Tips
This is an experimental Search Labs feature for US users, and higher usage limits apply to AI Pro and Ultra plans. Stores can choose not to take AI calls, so results may vary.

Try it yourself with Gemini

Check nearby stores for [item] in or near [city or zip code]. Call each store and ask whether they have it in stock, the current price, and today’s closing time. If possible, ask whether they can hold one for me, but do not place an order, reserve it, or make any payment. After you finish, send me a short summary for each store. Pause and ask for my approval before you do anything that would commit me to a purchase, reservation, payment, or submission.
