Automate FSA invoice claims from PDF receipts
A user had Claude Code read Amazon invoice PDFs, catch duplicates, and help file FSA reimbursement claims in an Optum portal.
- What they did
- The user gathered 2025 Amazon invoice PDFs and asked Claude Code to pull out each order date and FSA-eligible amount. They then had it work inside an already-open Optum reimbursement portal through the Chrome extension, while Claude checked the files and marked two as duplicates. The first submission was done with Claude Code, and after that it generated a script to repeat the process for the remaining claims.
- How it went
- The Chrome extension could not upload files, and ChatGPT agent mode plus Claude Desktop also failed at that step. Claude Code with Playwright MCP solved the upload problem and moved faster; roughly a dozen claims were filed in about two minutes. The extension also needed other Chrome extensions turned off for screenshots, and it spent nearly a minute locating a button.
- Tips
- Use an agent to extract the fields and catch duplicates first, but be ready to take over if the portal blocks uploads or navigation. If possible, switch to a browser automation setup that can handle file uploads and avoid extension conflicts.
