Use ChatGPT to get Adobe to waive a cancellation fee
A user used ChatGPT-written support messages to pin down Adobe’s cancellation terms before agreeing to anything.
- What they did
- The user needed to end an Adobe Creative Cloud plan, but there was no visible cancel option and ChatGPT also came up empty. They let ChatGPT steer the support conversation, with repeated questions about the first fee-free exit date, any charges, when the software access would stop, and how that compared with simply leaving renewal turned off. The user’s part was limited to opening the chat and sending the closing thanks.
- How it went
- Adobe initially said the exit would cost AUD 394.99 including tax. After the back-and-forth, it waived that charge once, closed the single license, and left access in place until 31 October 2026, without later subscription or renewal billing.
- Tips
- Before you agree to end a plan, make the company spell out the date, the fee, the access cutoff, and the effect of not renewing. If they offer a concession, ask for the final terms in writing.
Try it yourself with ChatGPT
I want to end my [subscription/service name] plan, which renews on [date] and is billed [monthly / annually / in another way]. Draft a short support-chat message that asks the company to confirm: the first date I can leave without a penalty, whether any charge applies, when access would stop, and what happens if I simply switch off renewal. Then write two calm replies I can use if they mention a fee or offer a temporary discount. Pause and ask me before you send anything that would approve a payment, cancellation, deletion, or submission.
