Use an agent to shop flights and pause before checkout

A blog benchmarked five flight-planning agents, and ChatGPT Operator could gather trip details but still had to stop before purchase.

What they did
The blog ran a set of flight-booking tests across five AI planners, using a domestic trip for the current week, a multi-city international itinerary, and a premium-cabin request. Kayak’s agent handled the conversation first, then passed the user into Kayak’s own checkout page. When the testers aimed ChatGPT Operator at United.com, it searched for flights, entered passenger information, and then held at the payment step for approval.
How it went
Kayak completed the reservation, but any later edits or cancellations still route through its support system. Operator made it through only part of the process and failed in two out of three tries after running into time limits, CAPTCHAs, and fare shifts. Gemini and Mindtrip did not finish the booking and only sent users elsewhere.
Tips
Treat the agent as a helper for search and form entry, not as a replacement for review. Tell it to stop before payment or any final submission, especially when prices may change.

Help me plan a flight from [origin] to [destination] leaving on [date] and coming back on [date], with a target spend of [amount] and a preference for [nonstop/cheapest/premium cabin]. Check at least [number] options on [airline or booking site], compare them, and recommend the best fit. Before you enter traveler details, make any payment, or confirm the booking, stop and show me the exact information you plan to submit, then wait for my approval.
