Talk your way to software for an Apple IIe
Benj Edwards used Claude to discuss a program idea and have it turned into code for an Apple IIe setup.
- What they did
- Benj Edwards brought back an Apple II Agent project he had started in January. An Apple IIe fitted with Ethernet used a custom client, while his Mac served as the middleman that linked the machine to Claude. He explained the program he wanted in conversation, and the result was a new program ready to be loaded onto the Apple II.
- How it went
- The experiment worked and showed a complete loop from chat to a program on the computer. The post did not include example software, counts, or performance details. The Apple II still could not contact Claude directly.
- Tips
- If you want to copy the setup, expect to need network hardware on the retro machine, plus a separate client and a Mac-based relay. Build in a pause before any step that writes data, loads code, or otherwise changes the machine in a lasting way.
Try it yourself with Claude
I want to make a program for my [vintage computer model] by describing it in chat. Ask me what I want it to do, then draft the code for [language] and explain how it reaches the machine through a separate computer or relay. Stop and ask for my approval before any action that would overwrite files, transmit code, submit anything, or load the program onto the machine. End with one finished file named [filename] and the steps to verify it in [project folder].
