Sort tax papers and draft IRS forms

They used Claude to classify tax documents, pull out figures, and populate IRS forms for review before any filing step.

Done with Claude· Advanced

What they did
Geoffrey Doempke, a former PwC individual tax preparer, dropped wage forms, 1099s, a brokerage summary, blank IRS forms, and instructions into a folder. Claude ran in a terminal, sorted the documents by type, extracted the relevant numbers, and saved the results to text files he could check. After he added bank and credit card exports, Claude grouped those too and asked follow-up questions when something was unclear. A separate skill then copied the data into the forms.
How it went
Claude and TurboTax matched on nearly everything, and he reconciled the return to the dollar. Claude also pointed out a health insurance form and a possible deduction approach. One form-filling step marked Married Filing Separately instead of Single, so he compared the draft against TurboTax to catch the mismatch.
Tips
Review every checkbox and filing status yourself, even if the numbers line up. A second pass in another tax tool can help catch small differences before anything is sent.

I’ve put tax documents in [folder path]. Sort them into wage forms, 1099s, brokerage summaries, bank exports, and credit card exports. Pull the key figures into a clean text or spreadsheet draft and flag anything unclear with questions. Then use the blank IRS forms in [folder path] to fill out a review copy for [tax year]. Stop after preparing the draft and show me any uncertain items before you do anything that would send, submit, file, or replace an original file.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
