Sort card charges into Excel for reimbursement
They used Claude Code to scan a folder of statements, identify reimbursable charges, and export them to Excel.
- What they did
- They placed their personal credit card statements in one folder and opened Claude Code there. They asked it to pick out charges that looked like business spending to be reimbursed. The agent walked through the earlier statements with them first so it could learn their usual patterns and ask about anything unclear. When it finished, it saved the matching expenses into an Excel file in that same folder.
- How it went
- They said the process saved them hours. They did not give any accuracy measure or error rate. Their next plan is to use the same approach to review and cancel subscriptions.
- Tips
- This works best if you expect to review a few uncertain items with the agent before trusting the final sheet. Be aware that Claude Code requires a paid Claude plan, and workplace data rules may restrict use with company records.
Try it yourself with Claude Code
Review every credit card statement in [folder path] and find charges that are [business/reimbursable/personal expense type]. Create an Excel file in the same folder with columns for date, merchant, amount, statement source, and category. If a charge is unclear, list it in a separate section and ask me before classifying it. Before you finalize anything, pause and show me the proposed entries so I can approve them. Do not edit, delete, or move my original statement files.
Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
