Rework Home Assistant lights for evening and sleep

They used an AI agent to change Home Assistant rules so harsh LEDs give way to softer strips, with a late-night shutdown and red sleep mode.

Done with Custom agentยท Intermediateยท Apr 2026

What they did
They asked an AI to edit their Home Assistant automation setup. The agent changed the rules so any trigger that would switch on the bright white LED spots instead turned those off and brought on the indirect strip lights. It also added a night rule that cuts every light at 10pm, while colored lights switch to red for bedtime.
How it went
The home now defaults to the gentler lighting instead of the brighter spots. At night, the system goes dark at 10pm and uses red light for sleep.
Tips
Have the agent show the proposed changes before writing them. Ask it to run a config check after the edits so broken YAML is caught early.

Try it yourself with Claude Code

Review my Home Assistant lighting automations at [path or URL]. Update them so that when a rule would turn on the bright [type of lights], those lights stay off and the softer [type of lights] turn on instead. Add a rule that turns off all lights at [time], and changes any color-capable lights to [color] for sleep. First show me the exact YAML diff and wait for my approval before making any change that would send, delete, or apply anything. After I approve, implement the edits and then check that the config is valid.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
