Centralize control of a connected house

An agent explored a home network, decoded several device interfaces, and assembled one place to run the whole house.

What they did
A developer started by asking an agent in chat to locate their Sonos system. The agent looked through the home network, got into the unsecured Sonos setup, used web research and API reverse-engineering, and then applied the same method to other household systems. It worked through the lighting, heating and cooling, window coverings, pool, spa, and security equipment, then connected everything with a custom dashboard and its own APIs.
How it went
After that, the home could be managed through a single control panel. The agent now handles broad commands across the devices, including a line like "Dobby, it's sleepy time". The post did not report any benchmarks or problems.
Tips
Begin with discovery so the agent only catalogs what exists before touching controls. Make it wait for approval before any sign-in, command execution, or other irreversible action.

Try it yourself with Claude Code

Look through [home network] and list the connected devices you find, such as [speakers], [thermostat], [shades], [pool equipment], and [security gear]. For each item, describe what it appears to do and how it can be controlled, then draft a simple local dashboard that brings them together. At first, only discover and record devices; stop and ask for my approval before any login, any action that changes a device state, any deletion, or any submission.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
