Make Grok Bot handle travel, reading, stock, and briefings

A commenter used Grok Bot to manage flight searches, daily newspaper access, stock lookups, and recurring weather-and-calendar summaries.

Done with Grok Bot· Intermediate· Oct 2026

What they did
They set up Grok Bot a few days before testing it, choosing separate bots/personas rather than channels. To get newspapers automatically, they gave it their library login so it could go through the app for them each day. They also used it for trip research, checking whether stores carried specific items, and sending regular updates about events and weather. When a GitLab token was needed, the bot showed a place to save it.
How it went
The flight planning, newspaper fetching, inventory checks, and scheduled summaries all worked as expected. Voice interaction felt more delayed than live, the natural-language permission controls did not appear to change behavior, and its Claude/code help was weaker than Opus in Claude Code.
Tips
Anything tied to an account will require you to provide access, such as a login. For payments, submissions, deletions, or messages, make sure the bot pauses and asks before it acts.

Try it yourself with Grok Bot

Configure an assistant for me that can start with a daily update on [today’s weather] and [my events]. Use my [library login] to obtain [newspaper title] each day without manual steps. If I ask about travel, look up flights between [city A] and [city B] for [dates]. If I ask about shopping, check stock for [item] at [store] near [location]. Before any booking, payment, submission, deletion, or message goes out, stop and display the full details for my approval.
