Let an agent tune Amazon book ads
An author had a Claude-based agent monitor Amazon ad performance, make routine optimizations, and hold risky actions for approval.
- What they did
- They hooked Claude up to the Amazon Ads API and scheduled it to check roughly 10 nonfiction book campaigns on a repeating three-day cycle. Each run, the agent fetched performance data, altered bids, inserted negative terms, stopped campaigns, and recorded the logic behind those moves. The author also set guardrails in a settings file for spending, bid adjustments, and starting new campaigns, while keeping any editorial edits as suggestions for a person to approve. To help it decide, they also supplied search information from the GitHub tool kdp-scout.
- How it went
- After about six weeks, June produced $682 in royalties while ad spend came to $757, which was an improvement over the earlier losses. The agent did make one expensive mistake: it duplicated effective keywords into a separate, higher-bid campaign that then fought the original one and caused nearly two days with no sales. The author later added deduplication rules, and the agent also turned off losing Germany and Spain campaigns on its own.
- Tips
- Amazon attribution trails behind reality, so they treated the most recent two days of data as too fresh to act on when deciding what to cut. They also enforced a โฌ800 monthly ceiling and daily limits so the system could not run past budget.
Try it yourself with Claude Code
Connect to my Amazon Ads account with the API credentials stored in [secure location]. Review the last [number] days of data for my [number] book campaigns in [marketplace], then suggest bid updates, negative keywords, and campaigns that should be stopped, along with the evidence for each recommendation. Present the full plan and wait for my approval before you change bids, pause a campaign, delete anything, submit anything, or spend any money. If you spot duplicate or competing keywords, call that out and stop for confirmation before taking action. Follow these limits: [monthly budget], [daily budget], [maximum bid shift], [campaign rules].
