Hand web browsing tasks from Claude Code to Comet
A developer wired Claude Code to Perplexity Comet so it could browse, log in, and research while coding continued separately.
- What they did
- They added the comet-mcp server to Claude Code’s MCP settings and installed the Perplexity Comet browser. The server starts Comet with remote debugging enabled and connects through CDP. From there, Claude can hand off broad requests like topic research or GitHub sign-ins, while Comet handles the clicking, scrolling, and searches and Claude checks in on progress.
- How it went
- The setup was shown in a demo rather than measured with benchmarks. It handled both research and login flow delegation, and the main benefit was keeping Claude’s attention on coding instead of browser work.
- Tips
- Make sure Node 18 or newer is available and that Comet is installed first. If you are on WSL2, enable mirrored networking, and confirm port 9222 is open before starting.
Try it yourself with Claude Code
Act as my browser research helper for [project/repo]. First, help me connect Claude Code to Perplexity Comet through MCP so you can take over web tasks while I keep coding. Then use Comet to [research question / open specific site / log in to service] and return a brief summary of what you found. Pause and ask for my approval before you install anything, change configuration files, or perform any action that could submit, send, delete, or pay for something.
