Compare thumbnail CTR in YouTube analytics
A creator used Grok Bot with YouTube stats to spot which thumbnails beat the channel average and get fresh thumbnail ideas.
- What they did
- They connected Grok Bot to Video Stats by adding a custom MCP server, pasting the server address, and approving the channel in the browser. After Video Stats began showing thumbnail images alongside each video’s performance, they asked for a read on the strongest thumbnails from the last 90 days on Justin Brown’s Primal Video channel. Grok Bot then compared those thumbnails with the channel-wide average and offered to outline new concept ideas.
- How it went
- Grok Bot said the channel’s average impression CTR was 5.1%, while the best thumbnails were in the 14% to 19% range, with CapCut Pad leading. It also pointed out that two of the top thumbnails seemed to use the same underlying pattern and called out one vertical thumbnail that did worse than expected.
- Tips
- This setup requires a Video Stats account, and Grok Bot was still in beta. The example showed screenshots but did not confirm that any of the suggested thumbnail ideas were later used.
Try it yourself with Grok Bot
Connect to my YouTube analytics for [channel name] and review the thumbnails from my top [number] videos over the last [time period]. Compare each one’s click-through rate with my channel average, identify any repeating patterns in the best performers, and flag any thumbnail that looks weak. Then draft [number] new thumbnail concepts for upcoming videos about [topic]. Pause before any action that would send, publish, delete, or change anything, and ask me to approve first. End with a short comparison table and plain-language descriptions of each concept.
