Build a Telegram bot for email and calendar tasks
Julian Goldie used Replit Agent to create a Telegram bot that could check calendar gaps and send Outlook invites.
- What they did
- They opened Replit’s agents and automations tools, added an OpenAI key, and linked Outlook with OAuth so the bot could reach email and calendar data. After choosing a Telegram bot trigger, they spent 28 back-and-forth messages spelling out the behavior they wanted while the agent set up the APIs and wrote the code. When the build was ready, they published it.
- How it went
- The bot worked: it could look for open time in the calendar and send Outlook meeting invites. Because the feature was still in beta, they ran into rough edges such as no saved memory in the test playground and some formatting glitches. They also found they needed a new Telegram bot for each deployment.
- Tips
- Have your own OpenAI API key ready before you start, and expect to rebuild parts of the setup if the beta behaves inconsistently. Ask the agent to pause and show any email details before anything gets sent.
Try it yourself with Replit Agent
Help me build a Telegram bot with Replit Agent that can read my [email provider] inbox and my [calendar service] calendar, then answer messages from Telegram. Use my OpenAI API key, connect the account through OAuth, and make sure the bot only responds to Telegram user ID [your ID]. Before any email is sent, stop and show me the recipient, subject, and body, then wait for my approval. Set up the trigger, generate the code, and give me the exact steps to test it with a message like: ‘What is free on my calendar tomorrow?’
Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
