Use Claude Code to tidy monthly books from a folder

A newsletter operator had Claude Code organize bookkeeping files, reconcile invoices, and draft monthly reports in about 20 minutes.

Done with Claude Code· Intermediate

What they did
They gave Claude Code a folder of admin records and one instruction set. The agent renamed files, sorted costs into categories, paired invoices with payments, and assembled a monthly recap. In a separate example, a plain-language prompt led it to read 200 PDF invoices, file them by month, and create a spreadsheet.
How it went
The operator says the bookkeeping work went from roughly 6 hours to 20 minutes. For the invoice example, they report a four-minute run with zero mistakes. These are self-reported results.
Tips
Tell the agent to preserve the originals and to surface anything it cannot confidently match. If you want to use it on live books, start with a small sample first.

Try it yourself with Claude Code

You are working in [folder path] with this month’s receipts, invoices, and bank statements. Rename each file into a consistent format such as [YYYY-MM-DD vendor amount], group expenses by category, match invoices to the related payments, and produce a monthly summary with category totals and a list of anything unresolved. Use copies rather than changing the source files, and pause for my approval before any deletion, payment, or submission.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
