Fix Home Assistant lights with OpenClaw

Dan Malone uses OpenClaw over Telegram to diagnose Home Assistant problems and rebuild automations when needed.

What they did
Dan keeps OpenClaw running all the time in its own LXC container on a Proxmox server, alongside Home Assistant, with ha-mcp as the link between them. He chats with the agent in Telegram and has it inspect home systems, including lights and automations. In one case, his landing motion lights failed; OpenClaw tracked the trouble to two Hue bulbs that had died. Because it could not directly edit the blueprint version of the automation, it removed that setup and created a native automation instead, then refreshed his dashboard to show the change.
How it went
Dan says the repair only required a short back-and-forth in Telegram, while doing the same work through the Home Assistant interface would have taken him at least an hour. He also used the agent to set weekend nap schedules.
Tips
Debugging automations can consume a lot of context, so token costs can climb quickly. Dan uses a sandboxed container and pays for a roughly $200/month Claude Max plan.

Try it yourself with OpenClaw

Connect to my Home Assistant at [address] using [connection/integration]. Inspect my automations and connected devices for anything broken, silent, or not triggering as expected. For each issue, explain what you think is wrong and outline a fix. Show me every change before you apply it, and pause for my approval before any action that would delete, send, submit, or replace something. After I approve, make the change, verify it works, and report back with the result.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
