Set up a Slack-controlled agent with memory and a dashboard

They ran OpenClaw on a separate MacBook Air, used Slack for most instructions, and tracked its work in daily notes and a live dashboard.

Done with OpenClaw· Advanced

What they did
They installed OpenClaw on an old MacBook Air that had been wiped and kept apart from their main computer. Most of the back-and-forth happened in Slack, while memory lived in a daily notes file with older entries moved out after 7 days and a separate place for references. They also built a real-time Kanban dashboard with Converge and Convex, and had OpenClaw update it through authenticated HTTP endpoints.
How it went
A morning briefing routine worked, but scanning Reddit subreddits stopped working. The dashboard showed tasks and actions changing live, and it solved the Notion mobile and relevance issues they had been dealing with.
Tips
Because OpenClaw can reach a lot and ships with weak security defaults, start on a wiped dedicated machine and only add tools step by step. Keep anything that could send, delete, or submit behind an explicit approval step.

Try it yourself with OpenClaw

I want to run you as a personal agent in [Slack]. Use [dedicated_machine] and keep your memory in a daily notes file named [memory_file]. Each day, add what you completed, what you learned about my preferences, and any open tasks; move notes older than [7 days] into [archive_location]. Also maintain a simple live dashboard that shows your current tasks and recent actions, and update it through authenticated HTTP endpoints. Before you send a message to anyone, delete anything, or submit a form, stop and ask for my approval. At the end of each day, show me today’s note and a short dashboard summary.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
