Post World Cup finals to a Signal group

A Claude Code agent monitored ESPN for finished World Cup games and relayed each final score to a three-person Signal chat with a validation step first.

What they did
They assembled the setup in one evening with Claude Code. A macOS LaunchDaemon started a Python script on a 30-minute loop; it checked ESPN’s public scoreboard, skipped anything already reported, and had Claude Haiku turn each finished match into a Claudia-style update. A separate non-AI check compared the score before signal-cli sent the message to Signal, and if that check failed, the script sent a plain score line instead.
How it went
In 39 days, it delivered all 104 matches without duplicates or send failures. 101 messages used the persona version, and 3 used the plain fallback. One bug initially described a penalty-shootout win as a 1–1 tie, then got corrected.
Tips
Pull both yesterday’s and today’s scoreboard pages, and treat shootouts as their own final-state case instead of a draw. Leave a plain-text fallback in place so the workflow still works if the writing step or validation step does not.

Try it yourself with Claude Code

Create an agent that watches [ESPN or another live scoreboard] on a [30-minute] schedule during [tournament or season] and sends each completed result for [event, league, or team] to my [Signal/WhatsApp] group in the voice of [a persona]. Add a code check that confirms the match is finished, blocks repeat sends, and verifies the score before any message is sent. Before posting anything to the group, present one example message and pause until I approve it.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
