Move Claude Code skills into Codex

Charlie Hills used Claude Code and Codex to migrate 201 skills in an afternoon, then checked which parts worked in both tools and which still needed fixes.

What they did
Charlie Hills started in the Codex app by using Settings > Import > Claude Code, which brought over skills, projects, recent chats, and renamed CLAUDE.md to AGENTS.md. Then they installed OpenAI’s migrate-to-codex skill inside Claude Code to handle the pieces that did not come across automatically, including subagents, hooks, and shortcuts, while keeping both tools available. After that, they had Codex read the rules back and flag anything that still seemed tied to Claude.
How it went
They moved 201 skills in an afternoon, and 106 of them transferred without issues. After the cleanup pass, 155 skills and 28 agents worked in both tools. The migration report also surfaced 3,006 infographic files still sitting in iCloud.
Tips
Back up the Codex settings file before running the migration, since the migrate skill rebuilds it from scratch. It also helps to ask the agent to separate clean transfers from items that need manual repair.

Try it yourself with Claude Code

I have Claude Code skills, projects, and recent chats in [source folder or account]. Help me migrate them to Codex in [destination folder or account], and leave the original Claude Code setup untouched. First import what Codex can bring over automatically, then identify anything that still needs conversion, such as subagents, hooks, or shortcuts. Before you change or overwrite any settings file, show me the planned edits and wait for my approval. When finished, give me three lists: what moved cleanly, what needs manual fixes, and what only works in Claude Code, with a short reason for each item.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
