Have an agent sort invoices for tax work

They used ChatGPT Agent to review invoices, match them to accounts, and prepare quarterly bookkeeping work for tax time.

What they did
A business owner gave ChatGPT’s Agent tool a simple mapping of transaction types to accounts for quarterly Xero reconciliation. The agent signed into the needed services, opened invoice PDFs, matched vendor names and dates, picked the right contact and account, and lined up items for approval while the person watched and checked the results. When needed, they also added invoices by hand.
How it went
After about three hours, it had already handled a large chunk of the work and made very few mistakes. Some sites blocked OpenAI access, and Gmail did not bring in attachments, so a few invoices still had to be copied over manually.
Tips
This works best as supervised prep, not a fully hands-off tax filing flow. If a service blocks the agent or attachments do not come through, be ready to upload PDFs yourself and review every choice before approval.

Try it yourself with ChatGPT Agent

I’m working on [quarterly bookkeeping / tax prep] for [business or account name]. Use the invoices in [folder, email account, or upload batch] for [date range] and help me decide which ones belong in [expense categories or income categories]. Read each PDF, match the vendor and date, choose the most likely contact and account, and build a review table with date, vendor, amount, category, and a short reason for each choice. If anything is unclear, flag it for me instead of guessing. Do not pay, submit, delete, or file anything; stop and ask me to approve before any irreversible action.

Fill in the [brackets]. Agents can make mistakes, so review anything before it is sent, paid or deleted.
