Organize tax records and draft Schedule C
Claude Code assembled tax deductions from multiple records and drafted a Schedule C, but some spending categories still needed a person to check them.
- What they did
- Chris Blattman set up Claude Code with one workflow that searched Gmail for tax paperwork, saved attachments, extracted important figures, and kept a running list of missing items. He used another workflow to gather charitable gifts from a Google Sheet, message receipts, and card records, then turn them into files that tax software could use. It also prepared a Schedule C for consulting income, while he manually reviewed card records for medical and childcare charges.
- How it went
- He said the job took about three hours, instead of roughly $1,000 to pay an accountant. The parts that involved sorting, filtering, and reading CSV files went smoothly, but the medical and childcare categorization still had to be done by hand.
- Tips
- Check the privacy page before you start, because Claude sends local file contents to Anthropic’s API when it reads them. Leave out SSNs and bank account numbers from anything you upload.

Review my [email archive], [file folder], and [spreadsheet files] for [tax year]. Make a deductions spreadsheet with columns for date, vendor, amount, and where each item came from, then prepare a draft Schedule C for my business income and expenses. If any entry is unclear, flag it for me and pause before any payment, filing, deletion, or submission until I approve the final version and any unresolved items.
