Build lead-finding and voice outreach workflows in n8n

A developer wired n8n to collect roofing leads, enrich them, place AI voice calls, and sort each call result back into a spreadsheet.

Done with n8n· Advanced

What they did
They created two n8n flows. The first searched for roofing businesses in a target city through Apify and Google Places, filtered the list, checked phone details and duplicates, and saved the leads to Google Sheets. The second picked a lead, prioritized follow-ups, checked local calling windows, pulled competitor details with SerpAPI, asked OpenAI for a call opener, and used Vapi to make the voice call before polling for status and classifying the result into the sheet.
How it went
The write-up did not include performance numbers or conversion data. It focused on the workflow design and on a few weak spots: some state-to-time-zone matches were imperfect, and duplicate checks by business plus phone still needed better phone-number normalization.
Tips
Define lead statuses and handoffs before building the automation. Keep time checks, routing, and retries in deterministic steps, and pause for review before any call is placed or other irreversible action is taken.

Try it yourself with n8n

Help me design an n8n workflow for [type of local business] leads in [city or region]. First, find businesses from [lead source], clean the list, and save name, phone, website, and source into [spreadsheet tool]. Then draft a short personalized call opener for each lead using [competitor or context source]. Show me the first batch of leads, the calling hours you plan to use, and the exact opener text, and wait for my approval before making any calls. After each call, classify the outcome as [outcome labels] and write it back to the sheet. Include checks for duplicates, missing phone numbers, retries, and API failures.
